Globe Chess (Game Prototype)
In 2008, an idea came to my mind: In ancient times, people believed the Earth was flat, so they created flat-board games such as Chaturanga, the origin of all chess-like board games. Today, we know the Earth is actually spherical, so why not create a modern chess variant to be played on a globe?
To bring my vision to life, I created a wooden game set called “Globe Chess” and tested it with friends. It worked brilliantly and amazed everyone. Since the board has no boundaries and pieces can move any number of steps, the experience of playing on a globe differs entirely from traditional board games.
Although the board is a 3-dimensional sphere, its surface is essentially a 2-dimensional plane, so the winning strategy remains similar to traditional chess and other board games. However, players must navigate all possible routes on the spherical field, making comprehensive spatial awareness a critical skill.
