Dot for iOS (Board Game on iOS)
This project aims to design an engaging user interface and experience for the iOS version of “Dot”. To keep the player’s attention focused on the game itself rather than the interface, the design follows the principle of minimalism—which embodies the design rule: “If you remember the shape of your spoon at lunch, it must be the wrong shape.”
Although the app includes many features—such as single-player mode, two-player mode, three types of online matching modes, and a worldwide high score system—the interface remains as simple and unified as possible to deliver a game-focused experience to discerning players.
Since the board has no boundaries and pieces can move without step limitations, players will find that playing “Dot” offers a completely different experience from any other board game.
Although the board is a three-dimensional sphere, its surface is essentially a two-dimensional membrane, so the winning strategy is not significantly different from traditional chess or other board games. However, players must navigate every possible route on a spherical field, making comprehensive observation a critical skill.
Two players can compete using the same device or two different devices connected via the Internet. The game delivers exceptional experiences, especially on multi-touch devices, where actions such as moving or capturing pieces can be performed elegantly through multi-touch gestures.
