Dot for iOS (Board Game on iOS)

This project is meant to design an engaging user interface and experience for the iOS version of “Dot”. In order to keep player’s attention in the game itself instead of the interface, the design follows the principle of minimalism, which, in other words, is the design rule of “If you remember the shape of your spoon at lunch, it has to be the wrong shape.”

Although there are many functions in the app, for example, single player mode, double players mode, three types of online matching modes and worldwide high score, the interface is as simple and unified as it can be, to present a game-centered experience to players with good taste.

Since the board has no boundary and all pieces on it can move without limit of steps, players will find that the experience of playing “Dot” is totally different from any other board game.

Although the board of this game is a 3-dimensional sphere, the surface of it is essentially a 2-dimensional membrane which makes the strategy of winning this game not much different from the original chess or other board games. However, it requires players to pay attention on every possible routes on a spherical field, that makes the full-angle observation a critical skill for this game.

This game allows two players to compete by using the same device together or by using two different devices and linked with the Internet. It brings players wonderful game experiences especially when they play on multi-touch screen devices. Certain actions of this game, such as move or capture pieces, can be beautifully done by multi-touch gestures.
