Mad Evolution (Interactive Installation)
The winner of ACM SIGGRAPH SpaceTime (USA)
in interactive-physical category on September 18th, 2009.
”Mad Evolution” is an interactive installation where physical components and digital content work together seamlessly. You can manipulate the evolution process of life in any way you want and witness how different the outcomes are—creating an unforgettably amusing experience.
This installation reintroduces players to the evolution of life on Earth through a timeline-based interactive system featuring attractive 3D cartoon characters that represent the iconic creatures of different geological eras.
Pick up a physical model from the table and place it anywhere on the timeline. You will see it transform into a specific character on the screen once positioned, and the “timeline accuracy” percentage will change due to unpredictable geological events. Feel free to experiment and see what happens when you alter the timeline of evolution!
Using modern motion sensors and webcams, the boundary between physical instruments and digital animation dissolves seamlessly. Leave behind dry, uninspiring textbooks and discover natural science through this engaging, accessible educational experience.
