Globe Chess (Game Set Concept Art)

Before crafting a wooden Globe Chess set, I use 3D tools to build digital models and verify all details. This is a critical step in the design process because it eliminates unnecessary structural elements at the conceptual stage and creates powerful concept art to confirm the final form of the work.

Many remarkable 3D artworks, films, and games fascinated me during childhood, leaving a lasting impression. However, the technical barrier to creating 3D imagery was extremely high at that time.

Fortunately, during my university years, I met a professor in the architecture design department who introduced me to 3D modeling. My first encounter with Sketch-Up was transformative; its intuitive interface allowed me to build virtually any shape I imagined. This tool quickly became essential to both my design process and daily life.

After mastering 3D modeling, I discovered how to render high-fidelity images using V-ray for Sketch-Up, creating photorealistic CGI that was difficult to distinguish from actual photographs. This experience provided tremendous satisfaction and confidence, transforming 3D modeling and rendering from technical work into an enjoyable part of my creative practice.

Many of my internationally awarded works, including “Dot” (Red Dot Design Award Germany 2010), “Bud” (iF Design Award Germany 2011), and “Mad Evolution” (3rd Place, interactive-physical, ACM SIGGRAPH SpaceTime USA 2009), were created using these 3D tools. They demonstrate my ability to conceptualize three-dimensional forms and transform intangible ideas into award-winning design works.
