Xmas Tree Ornament (3D Printing)
I love everything in the Xmas time, especially the beautiful Xmas tree, which is originated from the tradition of Saturnalia, an ancient Roman festival. As a multidisciplinary designer, when I learned that the 3D printer makes the traditionally impossible shapes possible, I decided to make my own Xmas tree ornament design and share it with my friends and family.
There are many astonishing 3D artworks, films, and games from my childhood, and those amazing images always captivated me. However, the threshold for generating 3D images was extremely high at that time.
Fortunately, during my university studies, I met a professor in the architecture design department who guided me into 3D modeling. It was an exciting moment when I first discovered this remarkably intuitive software, SketchUp, which allowed me to build virtually any shape and form I imagined. Soon, this tool became an essential part of both my design process and, unexpectedly, my daily life.
Not long after I became devoted to 3D modeling, I discovered how to render high-fidelity images using V-Ray for SketchUp. The results were so realistic that people often struggled to distinguish my renders from actual photographs. This experience provided me with tremendous satisfaction and confidence, and 3D modeling and rendering became less of a technical skill and more of an enjoyable part of my daily creative practice.
Many of my internationally awarded design works, including “Dot” (Red Dot Design Award Germany 2010 winner), “Bud” (iF Design Award Germany 2011 selection and exhibition), and “Mad Evolution” (3rd Place in Interactive - Physical, ACM SIGGRAPH SpaceTime USA 2009), were created using these 3D tools. This demonstrates my ability to think three-dimensionally and to transform abstract ideas into compelling design works.
